The Best NOYO Mailer Size for Your Clothing Orders

The Best NOYO Mailer Size for Your Clothing Orders

You folded that hoodie perfectly. You wrapped it with care. And then you grabbed a bag that's either two sizes too big (hello, sad, floppy mailer) or one size too small (goodbye, zipper seal). The wrong packaging size costs you money and quietly tanks your unboxing experience: two things no clothing brand can afford to ignore. You might be even be overspending on shipping unknowingly.

Whether you're shipping socks from your kitchen table or scaling a full clothing line, getting your mailer size right is one of the easiest wins available to you. This guide breaks it all down.

The Size That Actually Fits: A Clothing Type Guide

There's no universal "right" mailer for clothing, it depends on what you're shipping and how much of it. What size of mailer should you use?

6×9

Socks, scarves, headbands, and small accessories This is your compact workhorse. If it folds small and weighs under 4 oz, a 6×9 flat mailer handles it cleanly. It keeps your shipping costs low and looks intentional rather than oversized. Perfect for single-item Etsy orders or add-on accessories.

10×13 OR 12x15.5

T-shirts, tops, leggings, and single-item orders The 10×13 flat mailer (or the 12x15.5 for more wiggle room) the sweet spot for most clothing sellers. A standard tee folded in thirds fits comfortably, the seal closes without a fight, and there's just enough room for a thank-you card or tissue paper without creating bulk. This is the size you'll reach for most often.

14.5×19

Hoodies, jeans, dresses, and heavier pieces Bulkier items need room to breathe. A 14.5×19 mailer handles thicker fabrics without straining the seal or warping the shape of your fold. If you've ever had a hoodie arrive looking like it survived a wrestling match, this is the fix.

19×24

Multi-item orders and bulkier bundles. When a customer orders three items or you're shipping a full outfit set, go big or deal with the consequences. A 19×24 mailer gives you the space to pack neatly, protect everything, and still seal properly. Cramming multiple items into a too-small bag is how things arrive wrinkled, damaged, or with a broken seal, none of which make for a great first impression.

Why Flat Mailers Beat Boxes for Most Clothing

Boxes feel premium as packaging. But for clothing? They're usually an overkill for small businesses, and they'll cost you for it.

Flat mailers win on almost every practical front. They're significantly lighter, which directly reduces your shipping costs, especially if you're using weight-based carrier pricing. They're also easier to store (no assembly required at 11pm when you're packing orders), take up less space in transit, and are far less likely to get flagged for dimensional weight surcharges.

The unboxing experience doesn't suffer either. A well-chosen mailer (clean design, right size, properly sealed) creates a polished moment for your customer. Plenty of clothing brands charging premium prices ship in flat mailers and their customers love it. The packaging doesn't need to be a box to feel considered.

The exception here is structured items that would be crushed or distorted in transit. Think stiff hats, belts with hardware, or anything with rigid embellishments. For everything else, a flat mailer is the smarter, leaner choice.

When Padded Mailers Are Worth It

Most clothing ships fine in a standard flat mailer. But there are a few situations where the extra cushioning of a padded mailer genuinely earns its keep:

  • Delicate embroidery or beading that could snag or flatten under pressure
  • Jewelry and accessories bundled with clothing orders
  • Silk, satin, or lightweight delicate fabrics that need protection from friction
  • Small gift sets where presentation and protection both matter

Padded mailers cost a little more per unit, so the goal is to use them strategically, not as a default. If your product is sturdy enough to survive a standard mailer, it probably doesn't need the upgrade. But when the item warrants it, a padded mailer signals care in a way customers notice and remember.

The Simple Size Formula for Folded Clothing

Not sure if your item will fit? Here's a practical formula to take the guesswork out:

  1. Fold your item the way you'd actually pack it (thirds for tees, quarters for hoodies)
  2. Measure the folded dimensions: length, width, and thickness
  3. Add 2 inches to the length and 1 inch to the width to give yourself room to seal comfortably
  4. Choose the next size up from your measurement in the standard mailer range

So if your folded tee measures 8×11 inches, you're looking at a 10×13 mailer, enough room to slide it in cleanly, seal without stretching, and still look neat on the other end. If your folded item is thicker than about ½ inch, size up again. A mailer that's straining to close is a mailer that might not survive the journey.
